Dress Code

Student Dress Standard

Students and staff members at Rosa Parks expect everyone to have high standards of conduct and appearance. Students are highly encouraged to come to school in uniform.  In the event that students are unable to adhere to uniform standards, clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should demonstrate the respect, pride and good standards of students' home and community.

Students' clothing and appearance should not be of such extreme that it draws undue attention, nor should their clothing and appearance distract or interfere with teaching and learning in the classroom.

General clothing standards for all children require that close-toed shoes be worn at all times. Sneaker-type shoes must be worn for P.E.

The following items are considered objectionable for health and safety reasons, and will require a change of clothing:

  • Open-toed shoes or sandals
  • Shoes with wheels/heels
  • Cosmetics or makeup
  • Chain belts and wallet chains
  • Sagging or oversized pants
  • Unfastened overalls
  • Dangling earrings
  • Caps in the building*
  • Bandanas or knit caps
  • Clothes with inappropriate words, symbols or adult themes
  • Shirts and blouses with a bare midriff
  • Tight-fitting tops
  • Tops with a low neckline
  • Spaghetti straps
  • Facial piercings – only ear piercings are allowed.

*Caps may be worn outside with bill forward.

Students may be asked to wear school provided clothing over their personal clothing if they break the dress standard.

The Student Dress Standard was presented at Coffee with the Principal meetings and is included in the Student Handbook.   It is also translated into Spanish and Vietnamese.

Any family who cannot afford appropriate clothing is referred to the school social workers and outside agencies that will assist in obtaining appropriate clothing.
